About

Jack Wake-Walker is a filmmaker and academic working across experimental fiction, narrative, documentary, and poetry film. His work has screened internationally at festivals including Berlinale and Tallinn Black Nights, and spans over ten different languages. His experimental narrative feature Application Process premiered at FIC Autor Guadalajara in 2024, where it won Best Experimental Film.

His most recent short film, Debris Was A Thickening Wall, a critique on film festival censorship by the Turkish government, was screened at Izmir Short Film Festival in November 2025.

His current feature project Elimination Disorder (formerly Scarlett_123) was developed at Pustnik Screenwriting Workshop and selected for Fest New Directors | New Films. In 2021, Jack attended Werner Herzog’s Filming a Strange Planet workshop in Lanzarote, where he made the short film The Resonance, which Herzog described as containing “the greatest sex scene he has ever seen.”

Alongside his film practice, Jack works as an academic and researcher. He has co-authored work on the Bosnian War, including a hybrid poetry film titled Bridges <Bosnia 2.0>, and is currently undertaking a Creative Practice PhD in film at Newcastle University exploring how experimental cinema can engage with intangible cultural traditions.
